a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.
“The Greek word for "return" is nostos. Algos means "suffering." So nostalgia is the suffering caused by an unappeased yearning to return.”
― Milan Kundera, Ignorance
THERE ARE MANY TRIGGERS THAT ARE CAPABLE THAT NOSTALGIC FEELING. SOME INCLUDE...
1. PLACES...a mental snapshot of a physical reality
2. PEOPLE...more than an image, a personality
3. SCENTS...of a place, a person, an event
4. EVENTS...usually a significant happening that can be dated
5. TASTES...a certain food that invokes a memory
6.THINGS...this could include gifts, cars, clothing, ornaments or anything that kicks a memory into motion
7. SONGS, ART, LITURATURE...perhaps the strongest stimuli of a moment from the past
THERE ARE BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES IN BEING NOSTALGIC. GOING BACK CAN INVOKE SWEET MEMEMORIES THAT TRIGGER A SMILE. IT ALSO HAS THE POWER TO BRING THE SADNESS OF LOSS THAT BRINGS TEARS. SOMETIMES THE SMILES AND TEARS ARE SIMILTANEOUS.
OVERALL, NOSTALGIA IS A BITTER SWEET EXPERIENCE OF RELIVING A GOOD TIME AND YET KNOWING IT CAN NEVER BE RELIVED AGAIN.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT IF WE ARE LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST, SOMEDAY OUR TODAY WILL BECOME NOSTALGIC.
DURING THIS COVID EXPERIENCE TAKE TIME TO THINK ABOUT THOSE MEANINGFUL TIMES FROM THE PAST AND LET THOSE NOSTALGIC FEELINGS COME FOR A VISIT!
CERTAIN SONGS ARE JUST NOSTALGIC IN NATURE. WHAT SONG(S) DO IT FOR YOU??
